In May 2025, I took the ferry to the Isles of Scilly for a three-day assignment at St Mary’s Hospital. A new modular extension was being installed, and I stayed with the construction crew to document the work as it happened.
The client’s brief was to cover the installation from the ground, from the air with my drone, and on video. Beyond that, they trusted me to use my experience to decide how best to tell the story. Over the three days, I followed the progress of the build, moving between the work of the crew, the detail of the installation and the wider views that showed how the extension fitted into its setting.
Why the visual record matters
For a project on a remote island, photographs and video give people who cannot be on site a clear view of what is happening. They can help the NHS Trust, the local community and project partners follow the work, and provide material for updates, future case studies and public communications. The Isles of Scilly are a protected National Landscape, so showing the building within its surroundings matters too.
